Show Us Your Shop!

by Ralph E. Nelson
Helena, Montana

I am a retired clergyman and have had a woodworking hobby most of my life. Recently we moved to Helena, Montana to be near our daughter and her family, and during this summer I have had a shop built onto our garage.

Of the several shops I have had this one is definitely the best. Our daughter is an architect and drew the construction drawings. Our son-in-law is a master electrician and electrical contractor, and he did the wiring.

I built the long benches and did the painting. It has been occupied now for just a couple of weeks.

Most of what I do is making smaller furniture and gift items. I do quite a bit of wood turning. The shop is 12 feet x 16 feet and is heated by electric baseboard heating with a thermostat in the shop. Nine fluorescent units give me plenty of light, and the three large windows give me a view of the whole neighborhood, something I have never had before.
