Safety Tip: Don't Forget To Tie Your Boots (or Shoes)
|
|
Winter has set in up here in the Northeast. Going from the house to the workshop is only a 50 foot walk. Most times I just slip on a pair of boots and walk to the shop. When I am inside I put on sneakers.
Well, don't forget to lace up your shoes or boots, or whatever you're going to be wearing on your feet (closed-toed shoes are a must!).
I was going to make a cut on my table saw. I set the fence and turned on the saw. I reached to get the board that was laying on the other side of the fence. I stepped on my shoe lace and fell with my right hand landing only two inches from a brand new 10 inch spinning blade. That little mistake could have cost me most of a really good hand. Luckily, all it got was my undivided attention. I shut down the saw and tied my shoes.
You will NEVER see me or anyone in my shop with untied shoes.
