BOOK REVIEW:
The Anarchist's
Design Book

by Christopher Schwarz

The Anarchist's Design Book Review by
J. Norman Reid
Delaplane, VA

The Anarchist's Design Book , the latest book by Christopher Schwarz once again breaks new ground in the field of woodworking literature. It is, as its title states, a design book. But Schwarz delivers far more than a selection of designs. He introduces us in a structured way to vernacular furniture (the stuff common folks made and used daily) as an alternative to the more ornate and stylized pieces that populate museums and adorn the homes of the wealthy. Along the way, he seizes many opportunities to teach alternative methods of building the designs he presents, bringing them within reach of woodworkers at practically all levels of experience.

TOOL REVIEW:
Bad Axe Saws

By Jeffrey Fleisher
New Market, VA

Bad Axe Saws
I was very excited when Highland asked me to do a review of some saws from Bad Axe Tool Works. I may be a little biased since I already own three of their saws. I have been extremely pleased with my saws and I was anxious to see how the saws that Highland Woodworking is now carrying, especially the new Stiletto dovetail saw, compare.

Finishing Wood with Alan Noel

wood finishing Silicone Contamination

When first starting out in the finishing business, from time to time I would encounter a problem when spraying on my first coats of lacquer sealers on the furniture I was refinishing. The sealer would start to crawl forming little round craters in small areas of the surface, but seemingly not over the entire surface.

Here are 7 tips to help with this problem:
