I have been in woodworking for 40+ years (I'm now 70) and am self taught through books, friends, videos and recently
Youtube
.
I started out with just hand tools, a hammer, hand saw, jig saw and all the necessary screw drivers. My first power tools were a circular saw and a router and I later purchased a Rockwell/Delta 48" lathe.
I never had a shop until 6 years ago when I built our house in Wasilla, Alaska and added the 26'X26' shop connected to the two car garage. The shop has an overhead door as well as a personnel door to the exterior. It also has an 8'X12' office and bathroom so I don't have to go into the house. I had in-floor heat installed to eliminate the possibility of a fire or explosion due to an open flame from the boiler or water heater in the garage. The floor is poured cement and I have carpet pad in the work areas.
The shop is equipped with a Hitachi compound miter saw, a Jet table saw, Jet dust collector, Bosch router table, Jet air filter, JDS Air-Tech air filter, Jet 6" planer, Columbia drill press, Rigid oscillating bench sander, Jet bandsaw, Porter-Cable air compressor and I just recently replaced my Rockwell/Delta lathe with a new Laguna 18/36 lathe.
Not only am I into turning and building all types of projects but I am also a beginning carver.
