These designs were developed in the Scandinavian Slöyd craft school. The knives are versatile and useful. They fit nicely in the hand and are well-suited to carving figures, spoons and lots of other projects. All knives feature a full-length tang and rivet attachment to keep the handle firmly attached.
Knife Models
- Model 106 has a pointed blade with a cutting length of 82mm (3-1/4") and an oiled birch handle for an overall length of 190mm (7-1/2"). It weighs 77 grams (2.7 ounces). The 106 is Mora's general purpose carving knife good for a variety of projects. It comes with a polymer sheath.
- Model 120 has a thin, tapered blade with a cutting length of 60mm (2-3/8") and a barrel-shaped, oiled birch handle for an overall length of 165mm (6-1/2"). It weighs 71 grams (2.5 ounces). The 120 is lighter and smaller for carving details with precision. It comes with a polymer sheath.
Knife Steel
Laminated carbon steel offers an excellent combination of strength and edge retention. It features a hard steel core with strong durable outer laminations. Unfortunately, the supply of the required laminated steel is very limited. Mora is now offering the Sloyd knives in non-laminated carbon steel. They have the similar edge retention characteristics, but a lesser resistance to bending force. We will continue to offer the laminated knives as long as they are available.
Carbon steel (laminated and standard) is prone to rusting. Keep your blade clean & dry and wipe it with oil to prevent rusting in storage. Always keep your knife in the polymer sheath to protect the edge (and yourself.)
